Marcel Dubbelman

Marcel Dubbelman is a Dutch-born professional with a diverse background in international relations, business, and social entrepreneurship. He obtained his Master's degree in Political and International Science from the Gemeentelijke University Amsterdam, followed by a Master's degree in International Economic Relations from Columbia University in New York City.

Throughout his career, Marcel has worked for various energy and shipping companies in major cities such as New York City, Rotterdam, London, and Barcelona. He then joined the United Nations Centre for Transnational Corporation (UNCTC) in New York, where he provided advice to developing countries on their engagement with multinational corporations. Marcel continued his work with the UN in Bangkok, where he served in the Technical Cooperation Department of the Economy and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

Marcel's passion for social entrepreneurship led him to establish SiamDutch Mosquito Nets, a company that tackled the growing threat of malaria and other vector-borne diseases. Under his leadership, the company initiated the concept of treated mosquito nets, which was quickly endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. This intervention, among others, led to a significant reduction in child mortality from 2.5 million to currently around 450,000 globally. Marcel also founded Bed Net International, a trading company that supplies malaria devices, mosquito nets, and machinery to developing countries, enabling them to start their own manufacturing. Additionally, he set up Yaxa Textiles, which develops outdoor travel products for worldwide distribution.

Marcel's interests include dinghy and ocean sailing/racing, trekking, and music. He is also involved with various charitable organizations in Southeast Asia. Marcel is married and has two children.
