Pavel Slutskiy

Pavel Slutskiy holds a full-time position of an Associate Professor in Communication Management at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. He also holds an Associate Professorship in Public Relations from Saint-Petersburg State University — the first higher education institution in the country to offer a programme in PR. Dr. Slutskiy was born Russia, where he earned his PhD in Journalism (Political Science) from Saint-Petersburg State University. Since 2014, he has worked in Thailand.

His research interests include political and legal philosophy of communication, communication theory, philosophy of language, cross-cultural communication, strategic communication and public relations.

He is the author of “Communication and Libertarianism” (2021), the book which was referred by the reviewers as “…an outstanding contribution to both libertarian political philosophy and communication theory… and the most comprehensive work on communication issues in libertarian theory ever published". His follow-up book, “Philosophical Foundations of Communication Studies: a Praxeological Approach” (2024), develops an epistemological alternative to empiricism for studying communication. He is also the author of three other monographs, three university textbooks and numerous articles which were published in American Behavioral Scientist, Libertarian Papers, Journal of Promotional Communications and Quarterly Review of Business Disciplines among others.

He participated in embassy round tables on Russia-ASEAN relations as well as in panels on Russian foreign policy; his three articles on the US elections coverage in Russian media were published in the top 1 percentile SCOPUS journal. He is a member of EUPRERA, IPRA, PRCA, a vice-chairperson member of the GLOBCOM Institute (Germany), a member of the Editorial Board of the Asia Pacific Public Relations Journal (Australia), The EUrASEANs Journal (Thailand), the Journal of Communication Arts (Thailand) and a member of the advisory board of the Journal of Communication and Media in Asia Pacific.

He is a chair of International Corporate and Marketing Communications in Asia Conference (ICMCAC) and Cross-Cultural Communication Conference (CCCC). He has been invited as a visiting professor by multiple universities, including Towson University (USA), Zayed University (Abu Dhabi), Wibauthuis Hogeschool van Amsterdam (Netherlands), Blanquerna School of Communication, Ramon Llull University (Spain), University of Brawijaya (Indonesia), Webster University (Thailand). He is regularly invited as a keynote speaker for academic and trade conferences, as well as professional events.

He is also a communication practitioner with more than 20 years of experience as a communication industry professional, entrepreneur, PR-consultant, journalist, editor and a TV-host. He is a founder and co-founder of several communication and research agencies which worked with major international clients, including Lufthansa, Cathay Airways, Kaspersky, Vivo, Cigna, Walt Disney, Sony, MSD, Tuborg, Chanel, Tetra Pak, Hitachi, Audi, Subaru and many others. He currently also works as a part-time strategic consultant for Midas PR - one of the top PR-agencies in Thailand. His recent projects include both corporate clients as well as EU and UN agencies.
